House Passes Transportation & Housing Bill to Strengthen Our Economy & Our Communities
WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 10, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement today applauding House passage of the Transportation, Housing, & Urban Development Appropriations Act (H.R. 2577):
“Our infrastructure doesn’t just get us from point A to point B, it connects workers to job opportunities, small businesses to customers, materials to manufacturers, and more. To keep our economy moving, we need to improve the safety and soundness of our roads, railways, mass transit systems, and airways without wasting any more taxpayer dollars on ‘stimulus’ schemes that cater more toward the politics of the day than the economy of the future. We’ve done that today, and we’ve taken additional steps to help build stronger communities.
“This appropriations bill supports local economic development initiatives that will help improve lives and expand opportunities for more Americans. And, it ensures access to housing for some of the most vulnerable amongst us, including families, the elderly, and those with disabilities. By voting against this bill, Democrats are voting against providing the resources necessary to strengthen our economy and our communities, and they’re doing it solely to extract more government spending for unaccountable bureaucracies like the IRS and the EPA. It’s unacceptable.”
NOTE: After beginning the appropriations process at the earliest point since 1974, the House has now passed a total of five appropriations bills, and will begin consideration of the Department of Defense appropriations bill this week. Democrats, for their part, have signaled their intention to steer the government toward a shutdown by standing in the way of all of these measures to extract more funding for agencies like the EPA and the IRS.
