Ashtabula to Improve Wastewater Treatment, Reduce Nutrients with Ohio EPA Funds
Ashtabula is making significant progress toward upgrading its wastewater treatment plant to reduce phosphorus and nutrient discharges, thanks to a low-interest loan from Ohio EPA. Ashtabula will design major upgrades to ultra-violet light disinfection equipment, a final settling tank and digester. The equipment will be able to reduce nutrients coming into the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

Brown Marks Completion of “Plant C” Redevelopment Project in Ashtabula

There were 2,926 central Ohio homes and condos sold during the month of May, a 17.8 percent increase over April and an 8.4 percent gain over May 2014. Following the release of Northeast-Midwest Institute’s report on reducing harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) called for improved water quality monitoring in the Western Lake Erie Basin. The Institute, in partnership with the United States Geological Survey, found that water quality monitoring in the area is not robust enough for researchers to determine whether agricultural management practices are working.

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) is pleased to announce the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded two Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) Shoreline Cities grants to the City of Euclid to improve Lake Erie water quality. Totaling $174,206, the grants will be used to construct rain gardens and bioswales in Sims Park as well as bioretention ponds and porous concrete in Euclid’s municipal parking lot.
