Ashtabula is making significant progress toward upgrading its wastewater treatment plant to reduce phosphorus and nutrient discharges, thanks to a low-interest loan from Ohio EPA. Ashtabula will design major upgrades to ultra-violet light disinfection equipment, a final settling tank and digester. The equipment will be able to reduce nutrients coming into the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

Earlier today, Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) voted for the Ratepayer Protection Act (H.R. 2042). This legislation, which Johnson co-sponsored, would prevent the EPA from implementing some of the most extreme emissions standards in the agency’s history:

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) visited Ashtabula today to mark the completion of the redevelopment project at the former First Energy C Plant, known as “Plant C.” Brown helped secure $1.55 million for redevelopment of the facility, which serves the water needs of Ashtabula’s industrial community and helps sustain more than 1,000 jobs.

 There were 2,926 central Ohio homes and condos sold during the month of May, a 17.8 percent increase over April and an 8.4 percent gain over May 2014. This puts the total number of homes sold for 2015 at 10,531, which is highest number of homes sold on record for the first five months of the year, according to the Columbus REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service

Congresswoman Marcia L. Following the release of Northeast-Midwest Institute’s report on reducing harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) called for improved water quality monitoring in the Western Lake Erie Basin. The Institute, in partnership with the United States Geological Survey, found that water quality monitoring in the area is not robust enough for researchers to determine whether agricultural management practices are working.

The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) Board today announced the recipients of the 2015 Housing Tax Credit (HTC) program awards, used to fund the construction, acquisition and rehabilitation of affordable housing communities in Ohio. More than $30 million in federal housing tax credits was awarded to 40 developments that will serve families, seniors and individuals with disabilities in rural, suburban and urban areas.

Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced $250,000 in federal funding for the Noble County Commissioners to replace storm sewer infrastructure in Belle Valley. “Flooding and standing water can affect residents and business if it does not drain in a timely manner,” said Brown. “The funding will give Noble County the ability to improve storm water management in Belle Valley.”

Fudge (OH-11) is pleased to announce the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded two Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) Shoreline Cities grants to the City of Euclid to improve Lake Erie water quality. Totaling $174,206, the grants will be used to construct rain gardens and bioswales in Sims Park as well as bioretention ponds and porous concrete in Euclid’s municipal parking lot.

Hunt Mortgage Group, a commercial real estate lender, announced today that it has provided two loans totaling $17 million to refinance two retail shopping centers located in Ohio. The loans were arranged through Hunt Mortgage Group’s Proprietary Loan team, the firm’s new balance sheet lending platform.
