Brown Announces Nearly $330,000 in Federal Funds to Improve Water Quality in Southeast Ohio
Program will be Implemented Across 18 Counties
WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 9, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that $329,987 has been awarded to Rural Action Inc., headquartered in The Plains, by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to support AmeriCorps service programs. This funding will allow for 26 AmeriCorps volunteers to work with Rural Action to improve water quality in the Appalachian region of southeast Ohio through public education and awareness, research, and stream and river projects.
“AmeriCorps service members exemplify what it means to serve – they volunteer to help their neighbors, protect our environment, and educate communities,” Brown said. “This funding will allow them to continue their critical work to protect southeast Ohio’s water supply.”
Rural Action will implement this project in the following counties: Athens County, Perry County, Muskingum County, Hocking County, Vinton County, Washington County, Stark County, Tuscarawas County, Carroll County, Morgan County, Lawrence County, Meigs County, Gallia County, Noble County, Harrison County, Pike County, Jackson County, and Ross County.
The Corporation for National and Community Service invests in communities throughout the United States by training volunteers, awarding grants, and implementing service programs. As a member of the National Service Congressional Caucus, Brown has worked to expand national service and to raise awareness about the critical work of national service members.
