Ohio EPA Recognizes Miamisburg’s Wastewater and Drinking Water Infrastructure Improvement Efforts

Ohio EPA Director Craig W. Butler recognized the City of Miamisburg today for its efforts to improve wastewater treatment and drinking water treatment for its residents. He visited one of the city’s current projects, seeing upgrades being made to the city’s water reclamation facility.

Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released $14,695,190 to the State of Ohio Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). During the 2013-2014 winter, more than 420,000 Ohio homes used LIHEAP to help cover their home energy costs.

Ohio EPA received another round of test results from homeowners in the village of Sebring who asked to have their tap water tested and all 15 of the most recent samples were below the federal allowable limit for lead. Ohio EPA ordered the village of Sebring on January 21 to offer free water testing for any homeowner who asked and will make those results public as they are received.

In Washington D.C. at a Great Lakes Commission semi-annual meeting today, U.S. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will announce new state targets for reducing phosphorus in the Great Lakes. The 40 percent phosphorus reduction target identified by U.S. EPA is the same as that adopted earlier by Ohio through its 2013 Phosphorus Task Force II report and closely follows the path Ohio has already taken by working to establish the Western Lake Erie Basin Collaborative Agreement.

Brown Announces $97.6 Million for Foreclosure Prevention and Blight Removal in Ohio

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that following his urging, Ohio will receive $97.6 million in new federal dollars, and is eligible to receive an additional $250 million, to help communities that were devastated by the foreclosure crisis. The funding is part of a $2 billion investment that Brown secured in December to bolster the Hardest Hit Fund as part of the year-end government funding bill.
