Spirit of Homeownership Excellence Award Winners will be announced in June

COLUMBUS, OH – April 14, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) is the leader in developing effective programs that strengthen Ohio communities and address affordable housing needs throughout the state. OHFA is recognizing the best in innovative and quality initiatives across the affordable housing industry with the Spirit of Homeowner Excellence Awards (SHEAs).

The SHEAs seek to recognize programs aimed at helping homebuyers through consumer education, well-structured mortgage products, affordable and efficient construction, helping at-risk homeowners keep their homes, or other innovative efforts to achieve and maintain homeownership.

“We are accepting nominations for programs that focus on promoting homeownership opportunities, preparing residents for the responsibilities of homeownership, and making homeownership affordable,” said Doug Garver, OHFA Executive Director. “These awards will showcase programs that exemplify the best affordable housing efforts in the state.”

All entries must be sent electronically or post marked no later than 5 p.m. on May 7. An OHFA award committee will judge the entries and recognize up to four winners at OHFA’s board meeting on June 16. Winners will also be featured on the Agency’s Web site and noted in the summer newsletter. For complete details on eligibility, judging and how to enter, please visit www.ohiohome.org.

OHFA utilizes federal and state resources to provide housing opportunities for families and individuals through programs designed to create, preserve, and manage affordable housing throughout the State of Ohio. The Agency is a self-supporting quasi-public agency governed by an eleven-member board, nine of whom are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Two additional seats on the board, by statute, are reserved for the Director of Development and the Director of Commerce, or their designees, and both serve as ex officio voting members.
