Washington, DC – January 15, 2008 – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today urged President George W. Bush to pay greater attention to the immediate needs of American families when developing an economic stimulus package in the coming weeks.
Ohio, already suffering from massive layoffs, plant closings, and stagnant wages has seen rampant food bank shortages, record high foreclosure rates, and soaring gas prices and home heating bills.
In December, Brown introduced legislation that would provide $40 million in emergency funding to food banks. He has been at the forefront in addressing the foreclosure crisis, helping secure an additional $180 million in housing counseling. And Brown has been a leading advocate for investment in alternative energy to encourage the creation of new industries and jobs across Ohio.
“There is no doubt that our country is in desperate need of an economic stimulus package,” Brown said. “In Ohio and across the nation, that package must invest in low-income and middle class families hardest hit by the current economic situation.”
