OHFA offers affordable, flexible options during Homeownership Month

COLUMBUS, OH – June 1, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Buying a home is no longer a dream. With low sale prices and favorable mortgage rates, attaining homeownership is possible with stable financing and flexible options from the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA). In celebration of Governor Ted Strickland’s proclamation of June as Homeownership Month, the Agency is reaching out to communities across the state to raise awareness of the diverse selection of programs available to potential homeowners.

For over 25 years, OHFA has helped 130,000 Ohio families obtain affordable housing. From First-Time Homebuyer Programs to Target Area Loans and the Ohio Heroes Program, there are products available to help borrowers make the transition to homeownership. The recent introduction of Down Payment Assistance and Homebuyer Tax Credit Advantage are further incentives offered to first-time homebuyers and help make Homeownership Month a great time to purchase a home utilizing one of OHFA’s programs.

OHFA takes steps to ensure responsible and successful homeownership by requiring homebuyer education that provides critical information to prospective buyers. Foreclosure prevention continues to be a focus of the Agency and providing valuable resources and options for struggling borrowers remains an important part of our mission.

“Through the programs offered by OHFA and the Save the Dream initiative, we are working together to help more Ohioans realize that homeownership is within their grasp,” said Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. “Our citizens deserve a variety of housing options and services that meet their needs and allow them to obtain and keep safe, affordable housing.”

During Homeownership Month, OHFA staff members will be educating consumers at events throughout the state. For a complete list of upcoming events, visit www.ohiohome.org and click on the News & Events section, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter.

The Agency is a self-supporting quasi-public agency governed by an eleven-member board, nine of whom are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Two additional seats on the board, by statute, are reserved for the Director of Development and the Director of Commerce, or their designees, and both serve as ex officio voting members.
