OHFA creates affordable housing opportunities during Fair Housing Month in Ohio
COLUMBUS, OH – April 28, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — April is annually recognized nationally as Fair Housing Month and here in Ohio as declared by Governor Ted Strickland. Fair Housing Month is a time to celebrate the progress made in opening the doors to housing regardless of race, color, gender, nationality, religion, familial status or disability.
The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) has supported over 130,000 families to realize their dream of homeownership through homebuyer programs and down payment assistance for over 25 years. In addition, the Agency has helped to finance over 80,000 units of affordable rental housing throughout the state. The Agency also offers stable financing options for residents with low-to moderate household incomes, allowing them to open the doors to an affordable place to call home.
“By observing Fair Housing Month, OHFA has renewed its commitment to keeping the doors of equal opportunity open for every Ohioan,” said Doug Garver, OHFA Executive Director. “Families count on us to provide the tools, education and services that make successful, affordable homeownership possible. Our dedication to Fair Housing will continue far beyond the month of April.”
Through a number of diverse programs, OHFA creates opportunities for sustainable homeownership and honors the importance of equal access to housing in order to ensure a better quality of life for all Ohioans. OHFA’s programs make affordable housing available to first-time homebuyers, renters, senior citizens and veterans.
OHFA utilizes federal and state resources to provide housing opportunities for families and individuals through programs designed to create, preserve, and manage affordable housing throughout the State of Ohio. The Agency is a self-supporting quasi-public agency governed by an eleven-member board, nine of whom are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Two additional seats on the board, by statute, are reserved for the Director of Development and the Director of Commerce, or their designees, and both serve as ex officio voting members.
