COLUMBUS, OH – November 28, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) and Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) will host more than 1,400 affordable housing professionals at the 13th annual Ohio Housing Conference November 29 – December 1. The conference theme, “Strength in Numbers – More Jobs, More Growth, More Community Impact,” will focus on the collaborative efforts of professionals in the affordable housing industry who make a positive impact on Ohio’s residents, communities and economy.

“Affordable housing professionals share a mission to provide families with low- to moderate-incomes with quality, affordable housing opportunities,” said OHFA Executive Director, Doug Garver. “This conference provides attendees with a chance to come together to learn from each other and share ideas that will continue to strengthen our state’s communities and economy.”

“It is an honor to once again host the conference with OHFA, bringing Ohio’s affordable housing professionals together to explore how we all can continue to improve on the work being performed in the industry,” said Hal Keller, President of OCCH.

One of the largest statewide housing conferences in the country, attendees can gain insight on current housing topics through more than 50 informative sessions. Morning plenary sessions held each day will provide attendees with insight on current state, federal and economic policies affecting the housing industry. Dr. E. Gordon Gee, President of The Ohio State University, will kick off the conference on Tuesday morning with opening remarks.

A special signing ceremony will be held at the start of the Federal Housing Plenary to launch a new interagency agreement between OHFA, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Scheduled for 9 a.m. on December 1, the ceremony will mark the official launch of the pilot program that will avoid duplicative inspections and reduce regulatory burdens for rental housing that is subsidized through more than one federal agency. HUD Field Office Directors Thomas Leach, Jim Cunningham and Doug Shelby along with J. Anthony Logan, State Director of Rural Development, will be there to celebrate the occasion.

OSU’s football legend, Archie Griffin will also serve as the keynote speaker on Wednesday, November 30 from 12:30-1:45 p.m.

This year’s Governor’s Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing will be presented during Tuesday’s Networking Luncheon to Sally Luken, Director of the Ohio Region for the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH). The award is given annually to an individual or organization whose work increases the quality and availability of affordable housing opportunities for Ohio families. CSH will be recognized for their work to help communities create permanent housing with supportive services to prevent and end homelessness.
