Gibbs’ Water Resources Subcommittee Holds Hearing on Successful EPA Brownfields Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 23, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — This morning, the Subcommittee on Water Resources and the Environment held a hearing on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields program.  This is a highly successful program aimed at identifying and cleaning up potentially contaminated properties.

After the hearing, Congressman Bob Gibbs, who chairs the Subcommittee said “It is not too often that you get bipartisan support for an EPA program.  But the brownfields program shows that when the federal-state partnership is allowed to operate as intended, great work can be done.  I know that in my home state of Ohio, we have utilized this program to clean up inactive properties like abandoned gas stations and warehouses.”

The hearing also focused on ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Brownfields programs and improve liability protections for new owners acquiring properties that have been cleaned up.
