Congressman Latta Statement On Senator Portman’s Efforts To Pass Drinking Water Protection Act Through Senate
WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 31, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) issued the following statement in support of Senator Rob Portman’s efforts to bring H.R. 212, The Drinking Water Protection Act, for a vote on the U.S. Senate floor. Rep. Latta introduce H.R. 212 earlier this year in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the legislation passed with overwhelming support. These efforts were procedurally blocked by Senate Democrats, causing further delay of passage into law legislation that is vital to the protection of the drinking water sources Ohioans depend on:
“This legislation is vital to helping ensure the protection of the public health and safety of Ohioans the who rely on the Great Lakes for their drinking water. I applaud Senator Portman for his continued efforts to advance this bill in the Senate, and urge others to join us in supporting its passage. I introduced this legislation in the House of Representatives at the beginning of the year, and as Senator Portman noted, it passed through the House nearly five months ago with overwhelming bipartisan support. With some scientists predicting the possibility of severe outbreaks of algal toxins as we get further into summer, we cannot afford to waste anymore time in getting this commonsense, widely supported legislation into law.”
