OHFA Board Approves More Than $3.7 Million for Affordable Housing Initiatives Across the State
COLUMBUS, OH – November 16, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) Board yesterday approved $942,457 through the Capital Improvements Program (CIP), designed to provide funding for minor renovations and maintenance on aging properties funded by the Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH). Funding for the program comes from the Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF). Recipients include:
- ICAN, Inc. in Canton, Stark County – $177,714 in CIP
ICAN, Inc. involves the rehabilitation and repair of a six-unit, three-story building in Canton, Stark County. Built in 1958, the building is designated for low-income individuals and families that have experienced homelessness and have severe mental illness. The improvements to the building will address energy efficiency, safety issues and provide basic upgrades to improve the living environment and quality of life for the residents. - New Sunrise Properties in Lorain, Lorain County – $188,650 in CIP
- Pennsylvania Avenue in Lorain, Lorain County – $107,030
The Pennsylvania Avenue property consists of a one-story duplex located in Lorain, Lorain County. Built in 1962, the building consists of two units. One unit suffered severe water and mold damage requiring it to be completely gutted. The other unit requires minor repairs. - W. Erie Avenue in Lorain, Lorain County – $81,620
The W. Erie Avenue property consists of a two-story duplex with two units of housing located in Lorain, Lorain County. Repairs to the property will include replacement of the roof, windows and exterior doors, and updates to the kitchens in both units. - Riverside Apartments in Dayton, Montgomery County – $250,000 in CIP
Riverside Apartments involves the rehabilitation and repair of a three-story, 24-unit development located in Dayton, Montgomery County. The housing community is designed for very low-income, chronically homeless individuals that are disabled or suffer from mental illness or chemical dependency. - The Counseling Center in Columbiana County – $76,093 in CIP
- W. Sixth Street in Salem, Columbiana County – $29,343
The Sixth Street property consists of a single-family, two-bedroom home located in Salem, Columbiana County. Built in 1936, the property will receive improvements to address its structure and energy efficiency. - E. Washington Street in Lisbon, Columbiana County – $46,750
The E. Washington Street property consists of a duplex with one efficiency and one single-bedroom unit located in Lisbon, Columbiana County. Built in 1930, the property will receive improvements and updates to its structure. - West 116th Apartments in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County – $250,000 in CIP
The West 116th Apartments involves the rehabilitation and repair of a two-story, six-unit building located in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County. Built in 1928, the property is designated for very low-income individuals with a diagnosis of mental illness.
The Board also awarded $2.8 million through the Housing Development Assistance Program (HDAP) to provide flexible, low-interest financing for affordable housing developments. Funding for HDAP comes from the federal HOME program and the Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF). The developments receiving HDAP funds include:
- CHN Far North in Columbus, Franklin County – $750,000 in HDAP
CHN Far North involves the acquisition and rehabilitation of 66 scattered units of housing in North and East Columbus, Franklin County. The permanent supportive housing initiative is intended for individuals with mental illness or chemical addiction. This is the fourth development phase of this initiative. The unit amenities will include energy efficient and sustainable features. Work will include the replacement of roofs, windows, doors, HVAC systems, water heaters, flooring, bathroom vanities, cabinets, sinks and tubs. - CHN University District in Columbus, Franklin County – $750,000 in HDAP
CHN University District involves the acquisition and rehabilitation of 68 scattered units of housing throughout The Ohio State University area located in Columbus, Franklin County. The permanent supportive housing initiative is intended for individuals with mental illness or chemical addiction. This is the fifth development phase of this initiative. Work on the housing units will include the replacement of roofs, windows, doors, bathroom vanities, sinks, tubs and kitchen cabinets, countertops and appliances. - Pomeroy Cliffs in Pomeroy, Meigs County – $750,000 in HDAP
Pomeroy Cliffs involves the acquisition and rehabilitation of a 30-unit development for families in Pomeroy, Meigs County. The development consists of four residential buildings and a community building. The work on the community will include new windows, doors, cabinets, flooring, plumbing fixtures and electrical components along with masonry and foundation repairs. - Harvest Rose in Ravenna, Portage County – $550,000 in HDAP
Harvest Rose involves the new construction of a senior rental community located in Ravenna, Portage County. The development will consist of 40 two-bedroom units of housing. Amenities will include a new community building as well as a private driveway with single-car garages.
