A.K. Steel will construct a new 120,000 sq. ft. research and development facility in Middletown and plans to hire an additional 15 employees as a result of the company’s expansion project and the state assistance.
“The state of Ohio supports companies like A.K. Steel that are on the cutting edge of our state’s steel production industry,” said Coley.
The city of Middletown received a grant for $495,000 to support the A.K. Steel’s expansion project. The announcement follows Monday’s meeting of the Ohio Controlling Board.
Administered by the Ohio Development Services Agency, Roadwork Development Grants assist in funding local construction projects that support the expansion and creation of businesses in Ohio.
The proposed project involves building a new road running west of Union Road, providing access for freight and employees to the new facility.
A.K. Steel is a world-leader in the production of flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products. The company is the third largest employer in Butler County.
The grant supports construction of A.K.’s $36 million research and innovation center announced in February and provides access to the 15-acre site.
