Balderson Welcomes Site-Selection For Major Employer To Southeast Ohio

Columbus, OH – April 24, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — State Senator Troy Balderson (R-Zanesville) welcomed news that PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) and its Japanese-based project partner, Marubeni Corporation, have selected a potential site in Belmont County for construction of a world-scale petrochemical complex, expected to create hundreds of full-time jobs and thousands more constructions jobs.

“It was welcomed news to hear that Ohio was selected as a top choice for the potential building of a multi-billion dollar ethane cracker,” said Balderson. “As chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I can see that Ohio is proving to be a major player in the energy industry, and I look forward to the jobs and economic development that this new project will bring.”

The company will start a 12-16 month engineering design review process before making their final decision to build the facility.

The purpose of the ethane cracker is to process ethane gas from Ohio’s Marcellus and Utica shale wells into materials that are the building blocks for plastic and other basic ingredients for manufacturers. Constructing ethane crackers involves major capital investment with long lifespans.

If selected, the facility would be a major employer of high-skilled workers, such as chemical engineers, chemists, lab technicians and other high-paying skilled positions. The company is expected to create hundreds of full-time jobs, and thousands of construction jobs.
