Sen. Brown Announces Federal Resources to Prevent Homelessness Among Cuyahoga County Veterans
Mental Health Services for Homeless Persons, Inc. of Cleveland to Serve Approximately 399 Households with Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program Funds
WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 26, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that Mental Health Services for Homeless Persons, Inc. in Cleveland has received federal resources to prevent homelessness among at-risk Cuyahoga County Veterans. The funds were made available through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program to prevent homelessness among at-risk Cuyahoga County Veterans.
“Our veterans put their lives on the line for our country—and these funds will ensure that they receive the support they need. From preventing homelessness to helping increase job training and work opportunities, we should be doing all we can to ease the transition to civilian life for our veterans,” Brown said. “Our commitment to our servicemembers shouldn’t end when they return home. It’s a tragedy when even one member of our armed services is forced to live on the street—which is why preventing and ending homelessness is so important.”
Aimed to improve very low-income and at-risk veteran families’ housing stability, the Cleveland organization will receive $995,709.19 to provide supportive services to Cuyahoga County families living in or transitioning to permanent housing. These services include outreach, case management, assistance in obtaining VA benefits, and assistance in obtaining and coordinating other public benefits.
A list of the nationwide award recipients and details about the SSVF Program are available online here.
Sen. Brown serves on the U.S. Senate Committee on Veteran’s Affairs.
