OHFA ADVANCES AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPTIONS DURING NATIONAL HOMEOWNERSHIP MONTH
COLUMBUS, OH – June 9, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Homeownership is a rewarding and worthwhile investment. With reduced home prices and competitive mortgage rates, this is an excellent time to celebrate the affordable housing options available to Ohioans. Governor John Kasich proclaimed June as Homeownership Month, highlighting the impact of homeownership on Ohio’s economy and communities.
“Homeownership opportunities strengthens families, stabilizes communities, encourages savings and investment and improves our region’s economy,” the proclamation notes. “I encourage all residents to join me in honoring the national, state and local partnerships that come together to create opportunities for hard working individuals and families to make the dream of owning their home a reality.”
Since the Agency’s inception in 1983, more than 140,000 Ohioans have achieved the dream of homeownership with the assistance of the Ohio Housing Finance Agency’s (OHFA) resources and expert guidance. OHFA serves low-to moderate-income Ohioans who seek affordable homeownership opportunities and are prepared to assume the responsibility of owning their first home.
“As we celebrate Governor Kasich’s proclamation of June as Homeownership Month, OHFA continues to proudly provide tools, resources and education to help Ohioans become successful homeowners,” said Doug Garver, Executive Director for the Agency. “Buying a home not only provides stability and privacy, it also builds wealth and equity. OHFA takes pride in providing reasonable financing options and mortgages for borrowers in the great state of Ohio.”
OHFA offers competitive interest rates on several types of government-insured 30-year fixed-rate loans. The Agency also offers a down payment assistance grant for up to two and a half percent of the home’s purchase price. This grant can be used for assistance with down payment costs, closing costs, and other prepaid expenses incurred prior to closing.
In addition to competitive interest rates and down payment options, OHFA also offers homebuyer education to prepare homebuyers for successful, sustainable homeownership.
