Patt-McDaniel Announces $150,000 Grant To The Village Of Mechanicsburg For Building Improvements

-

COLUMBUS, OH – June 30, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Lisa Patt-McDaniel, Interim Director of the Ohio Department of Development, today announced that the Village of Mechanicsburg has been awarded a $150,000 grant to assist with the renovation and redevelopment of the Mechanicsburg Hardware Store, a historic downtown building located at 29 South Main Street. The funds will be awarded through the Discretionary Grant Program, which is administered by the Ohio Department of Development’s Office of Housing and Community Partnerships.

“One of our many goals is to advance the development of our historic buildings, which are often located in the heart and soul of the community,” said Patt-McDaniel. “The Discretionary Grant Program will help the Village of Mechanicsburg preserve their historic fabric while adding vibrancy to its downtown.”

The project includes work to help comply with interior and exterior building codes and facade improvements. Once renovations are complete, the building owner plans to lease the store which has been vacant for eight years. The owner will provide a $150,000 match for the $300,000 project.

The Discretionary Grant Program provides funding for “targets of opportunity” investments in economic and community development projects which create and/or retain permanent job opportunities that are not feasible in other funding categories.

Working with our partners across business, state and local governments, academia, and the non-profit sector, the Ohio Department of Development works to attract, create, grow, and retain businesses through competitive incentives and targeted investments. Engaged every day in marketing, innovating, investing, and collaborating, the Ohio Department of Development works at the speed of business to accelerate and support the teamwork that is absolutely necessary for success by providing financial, informational, and technical assistance to those making an investment in Ohio’s future.
