OHFA seeks nominations for Sustainable Homeownership Excellence Awards

COLUMBUS, OH - March 17, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Homeownership Month is just around the corner and the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) wants to honor programs and initiatives that promote sustainable homeownership throughout the state. The “Sustainable Homeownership Excellence Awards” will recognize the best in innovative and quality initiatives across the affordable housing industry.

“For more than 25 years, OHFA has partnered with housing professionals to provide affordable, sustainable, quality housing for Ohioans who need it most,” said Doug Garver, Executive Director for the Agency. “We are encouraging partners to nominate programs or initiatives that help residents obtain affordable and sustainable homeownership.”

The nominations will be judged on a variety of factors that demonstrate sustainable homeownership including: innovation, length of program, area of the state it reaches, whether it is coordinated with local, state and/or national partners, and the ability to be replicated. All electronic entries must be received by OHFA no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, May 1, with mailed entries postmarked by this date. The Agency will select four programs to receive awards. The winning organizations will be recognized at the June OHFA Board meeting, featured in the summer newsletter, and commended as true advocates of sustainable homeownership excellence.

For complete details on eligibility, judging and how to enter, visit the OHFA web site at www.ohiohome.org and follow the link on the front page.

OHFA utilizes federal and state resources to provide housing opportunities for families and individuals through programs designed to create, preserve, and manage affordable housing throughout the State of Ohio. The Agency is a self-supporting quasi-public agency governed by an eleven-member board, nine of whom are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Two additional seats on the board, by statute, are reserved for the Director of Development and the Director of Commerce, or their designees, and both serve as ex officio voting members.
