Funds to assist with the development of Regional Center West

Columbus, OH – June 16, 2008 – Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher today announced that the City of Beavercreek in Montgomery County has been awarded a $739,760 Roadwork Development Grant to complete public roadwork improvements on Pentagon Boulevard in support of the development of the Regional Center West business area. The grant, administered by the Ohio Department of Development, was approved today by the State Controlling Board.

“This area in Beavercreek has a strong concentration of new technology and defense contracting businesses,” said Lt. Governor Fisher, who also serves as Director of the Ohio Department of Development. “The development of Regional Center West, in close proximity to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Wright State University, and the Mall at Fairfield Commons, will help to meet the needs of these businesses for office space.”

The City, County, and State created the Regional Center West business area to attract development. Regional Center West’s successes include the Advanced Technical Intelligence Center for Human Capital Development, a not-for-profit corporation that leverages federal, state, and local funding to educate and train a new workforce of appropriately cleared government and contractor personnel. Other Regional Center West developments include the Acropolis at Fairfield Commons, the College Park development complex, and the Pentagon Park development complex.

Pentagon Boulevard serves as the primary access road from Interstate 675 for the Intelligence Center, College Park, and Pentagon Park. Pentagon Boulevard will be expanded from an existing rural two-to-three lane road, to five lanes with a dedicated center turn lane. The roadwork will run from Grange Hall Road to east of Commons Boulevard. The $1 million in roadwork to be completed includes excavation, grading, base, pavement, construction of all utilities within the road’s right-of-way, and related construction. Combined, these new developments are expected to create a combined 1,045 new jobs within the next three years.

The Roadwork Development Account provides grant assistance to communities for highway and road projects related to job creation and retention. The Program is funded with gas tax dollars and is restricted to public road projects only.
